Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pre-1921 Untrained Assistant Teachers.

51.

asked the Minister for Education what increase, if any, there was in salaries granted to pre-1921 untrained assistant national teachers under the last increase to national school teachers.

The scales of salary for untrained principal and assistant national teachers, appointed prior to 1 January, 1921, were as follows from 1 April, 1963:—

Married Men: £525 by 15 increments to £1,015.

Women and Single Men: £445 by 15 increments to £800.

These scales were increased to the following with effect as from 1 September, 1963:—

Married Men: £610 by 15 increments to £1,110.

Women and Single Men: £480 by 15 increments to £860.

52.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the weekly increase in pensions granted to pre-1921 untrained assistant national teachers, who retired in June 1962, under the recent increase in pensions to such teachers.

The recent pension increases related only to persons who had retired before the 1st January, 1960. Accordingly, no increase was made in the pension of any teacher who retired in June, 1962.
