Vol. 207 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Portlaoise House Tenancy.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that, out of twenty-five applicants for the tenancy of a local authority house in Portlaoise, the County Medical Officer of Health recommended the one applicant who already was well housed in a county council house and discounted the claims of the other applicants, twenty-two of whom are subtenants, mostly married with families and living in one or two rooms; and if he will instruct the County Manager to refuse sanction to the recommendation.

I understand that the case referred to by the Deputy involved merely the transfer of an existing county council tenant to a house more suitable to his needs and that the house vacated by him is available for letting by the housing authority.
