Vol. 207 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Radio Interference in South Tipperary.

26.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that there is a very considerable amount of interference from foreign stations with the reception of Radio Éireann in the South Tipperary area; and if he will take steps to eliminate such interference.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave on 30th January, 1964, to a question by Deputy Thaddeus Lynch regarding unsatisfactory reception from Radio Éireann in the Tramore area.

What is the Minister doing about it?

I am introducing a Capital Bill to provide extra capital for the Broadcasting Authority to go ahead with its plans very soon.

I am interested to know what will happen the people in Tramore between this and the time the Minister gets the money. Is the Minister doing anything now?

Nothing can be done until we get the money to do the job.

I have an idea nothing is being done at all.

It is a long-standing question of Deputy Lynch.

All the more shame.

It goes back a number of years. I shall have the pleasure of asking this House to pass the necessary legislation in a very short time to enable the Broadcasting Authority to finalise the operation——

We shall sit to-morrow.

——to get better reception.

Next Tuesday I shall be here. The Minister is condemned out of his own mouth. He mentioned years.

As the Minister has gone into great detail in his supplementary replies to Deputy Lynch, would it not have been better if, in the first place, he had given the information for which Deputy Treacy asked?

I gave the information the Deputy asked for.

In a most left-handed way.
