Vol. 207 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Honours Graduates in Secondary Teaching.

24.

asked the Minister for Education whether it is his intention to extend the salary differential at present paid to all science graduates in secondary teaching to honours graduates or holders of higher degrees than the primary pass degree in other subjects; and, if not, why.

All honours graduates are already in receipt of a special allowance of £65 per annum. The fact that in the present scientific age it was found necessary to encourage schools by way of special grant to employ more science graduates and to encourage such graduates to take up teaching does not in any way call for the extension of such a special grant to schools in relation to teachers of other subjects.
