Vol. 207 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Emergency Housing.

10.

asked the Minister for Local Government if the implementation of the decision by Dublin County Council to provide caravans for emergency housing cases is being held up in his Department; and, if so, for what reasons.

The county council have been informed that I am generally in sympathy with the idea of having a reserve of accommodation to deal with emergency housing situations but they have been asked to reconsider certain aspects of the suggested use of caravan-type dwellings for this purpose.

Is there correspondence awaiting an answer in the Minister's Department? A few nights ago, we were told by the Manager that that is what is holding things up. We have a large number of people in really shocking conditions in the county for whom these caravans would be suitable.

My information is somewhat contrary to the Deputy's; it is that a further submission from the housing authority is at present awaited in my Department.
