Vol. 208 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers - Retired Income Tax Collectors.

17.

asked the Minister for Finance what proposals he has at present to compensate income tax collectors who have been compulsorily or voluntarily retired owing to the introduction of the PAYE income tax system.

A scheme of compensation for collectors of taxes and of reemployment, where appropriate, has been prepared and circulated to the individual collectors and has not as yet been fully implemented.

Would the Minister say if there were any negotiations between the Revenue Commissioners and the collectors, and if there was mutual agreement?

Both the Revenue Commissioners and I met the collectors on more than one occasion and the final agreement was put to the collectors some time ago. They have not yet replied to it.

They have not replied?

They have not replied to the Revenue Commissioners' final proposals.

Is there still room for discussion between the collectors and the Revenue Commissioners?

There might be adjustments but I think nothing more could be given.
