Vol. 208 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers - Cyprus International Force.

23.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will make a statement on Ireland's attitude to the proposed international force for Cyprus.

The question of an international force for Cyprus is still being discussed by the Security Council of the United Nations and no agreement has yet been reached on the matter.

Has any approach been made at all to the country?

The Resolution is still before the Security Council.

There is no contact with the Minister in this matter?

No official contact.

Can the Minister say what attitude we took on the Resolution?

We are not on the Security Council. This is a draft Resolution which is being discussed by the Security Council and as the Deputy is aware, we are not members.

But at the meeting which Mr. O'Sullivan attended?

That was a private meeting between himself and the Secretary-General.
