Vol. 208 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers - Monasterevan (Kildare) Land Drains.

58.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the condition of the drains at the Monasterevan Forestry Centre does not allow a clear flow of water from adjoining land; and that, in consequence, the house of an adjoining owner (name supplied) suffers severely from flooding and dampness; and if he will take appropriate steps to have the drains cleaned so as to provide a proper flow.

The drain in question, which runs between privately-owned land and State forest property, is not essential to the drainage of the forest and it is not, therefore, proposed to undertake maintenance of it.

Why will you not drain the woman's land next door?

It is not a Forestry drain. It was always there. It was never touched by the Forestry Branch. It is not their function. It is as simple as that.
