Vol. 208 No. 2

Written Answer. - North Dublin Water Supply Scheme.

40.

asked the Minister for Local Government in relation to the North Dublin Regional Water Supply Scheme (a) the total estimated cost of the scheme, (b) the estimated period required for completion in the North-East distribution system, (c) the estimated annual loan repayments to be borne by rates on completion of the scheme based on the estimated cost and the approximate rate in the pound, (d) the location of the reservoir from which the distribution system will radiate and (e) the estimated mileage of water main pipes required to serve the main villages and towns included in the scheme.

(a) The total estimated cost of the North Dublin Regional Water Supply Scheme as already designed and approved is approximately £1,272,000; (b) the estimated time for completion of the North-East distribution system is 2½ years; (c) on a full loan of £1,272,000 the proportion of loan charges in the first year to be borne by the local authority would be £50,880. The actual impact on the rates will, however, depend also upon the amount to be received from water charges. The loan will be on the instalment system and the annual loan charges will reduce progressively during the loan repayment period; (d) the main reservoir is located at Ballycoolan. Balancing reservoirs will be located at Hedgestown and Ballykea; and (e) the estimated mileage of water main pipes in the main portion of the scheme already designed is 30 miles.
