Vol. 208 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hotel Fire Prevention Precautions.

30.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government if, having regard to the recently expressed fears of commercial travellers that fire warning and protection equipment in hotels are inadequate, he will ensure that steps are taken to provide adequate safeguards for hotel guests.

I would refer the Deputy to my replies to questions on 3rd and 4th March on the general question of fire precaution equipment and standards. In so far as any hotel may be a potentially dangerous building it is subject to control by the fire brigade authority under the Fire Brigades Act, 1940. Under this Act the authority may require the proprietor to refrain from using such building unless specified fire precautions are taken. These may include the provision of fire fighting and alarm equipment.
