Vol. 208 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Outstanding Loan Instalments.

40.

asked the Minister for Local Government the amount of loan instalments outstanding to local authorities for sanitary services, housing, SDA loans and supplementary grants.

A new procedure designed to speed up the issue of instalments of loans raised by local authorities from the Local Loans Fund has been in operation since 1st October, 1963. Under this procedure, 90 per cent of the amount of loans for works of construction and the full amount of other loans can be drawn by direct application to the Office of Public Works. In the case of works of construction the full amount outstanding is not issued until the final accounts have been examined in my Department. When these accounts have been cleared, the relevant instalment is paid direct by the Office of Public Works.
