Vol. 208 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo Telephone Applicants.

81.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants for telephone services in County Sligo; and when he hopes that this backlog will be cleared off.

The number is 115. About ten of these will be given service in the next few months. Because of the necessary concentration on urgent long-term work in the interest of subscribers generally, it will not be possible for some time to clear the remaining applications.

I did not quite catch what the Minister said, but I understand this will take some time. I think the Minister gave a similar answer about 12 months ago; he was then hoping to clear the backlog inside 12 months.
