Vol. 208 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Remuneration of Army Nursing Service.

100.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will indicate the reason for the delay in calculating the increased remuneration and arrears, if any, payable to members of the Army Nursing Service, the number of persons concerned, and the estimated amount due.

The remuneration of members of the Army Nursing Service is related directly to that of analogous grades of the nursing staffs of local authorities. Until the detailed scales for the latter staffs were approved, the appropriate scales for the members of the Army Nursing Service could not be calculated. The scales for local authorities nursing staffs have now been approved and the scales for the Army Nursing Service are being calculated. Payment of the increase and arrears, with effect from 1 Feabhra, 1964, will be made at the end of the present month.

It would not be practicable to estimate the amount due since it would involve calculations in respect of each of the 82 members of the Service. The increase will be as stated already 12 per cent per annum.

Are there any deductions for rations? Are you sticking them for 6d. a day?
