Vol. 208 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ownership of Dwellings.

1.

asked the Taoiseach the reasons for the discrepancies, in relation to the figures given for ownership of dwellings for the years 1953 to 1959, between the replies to Questions No. 8 of 13th December 1960 and No. 2 of 3rd March 1964.

As was explained in the final paragraph of page 33 of National Income and Expenditure, 1962, total personal expenditure is estimated as a residual and, consequently, small changes in the level of its constituents are to be expected when revisions of other items in the national accounts take place. The changes referred to in the Deputy's question were due to such revisions.

Data on rents from the Census of Population, 1961, have recently become available and the use of them may result in some further changes in the series of estimates of rent of dwellings.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary tell us from his brief at what date can we expect that the figures will be final because some of these changes went back seven years, I think?

The figures have to be revised from time to time as new data become available.

What is the final figure? Seven years seems an extraordinary period to go back.
