Vol. 208 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Dental Hospital Plan.

59.

asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement on the present position in regard to the plan for the building of a new dental hospital in Dublin, indicating whether a firm decision has yet been taken as to the location of such hospital, and if not, why; what temporary improvements have been made with regard to staffing, space and equipment at the existing hospital in Lincoln Place; whether another inspection of dental teaching facilities in this country by British authorities or others is expected in the near future; and, if so, what improvements in dental teaching facilities will have been made since the adverse results of previous inspections.

The newly constituted Dublin Dental Hospital Board is at present giving consideration to the location of the proposed new dental hospital. Some more time must elapse before a firm decision in the matter can be made. Arrangements have been made in regard to the recruitment of all the necessary staff and the senior members have already been appointed. The necessary additional equipment is being provided and the required temporary improvements are being made in the existing hospital in Lincoln Place. The next inspection of dental teaching facilities in Dublin by the British General Dental Council is due to take place in July. The Council have already expressed themselves as being pleased with the developments to date.
