Vol. 208 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Maintenance of Irish Troops in Cyprus.

61.

asked the Minister for Defence the estimated cost to the Exchequer of maintaining a battalion of Irish troops with the United Nations Force in Cyprus for a three-month period.

It is not possible at this stage to estimate the extra cost to the Exchequer of maintaining a battalion of Irish troops with the United Nations Force in Cyprus, for a three month period.

As far as overseas allowances for personnel are concerned, the estimated cost of a battalion of 600 officers and men for three months would be £90,000.
