Vol. 208 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Dental Treatment.

5.

asked the Minister for Health how many general medical service cases were called in for dental treatment since 1st January in (a) the Naas area, County Kildare, and (b) County Kildare.

During the period 1st January to 31st March, 1964, six adults in the Naas area, that is, in the Naas and Carragh dispensary district which comprises the town of Naas and some of the surrounding rural area, and 89 adults in the whole of County Kildare were provided with dental treatment by Kildare County Council under section 14 of the Health Act, 1953. In addition, children who might be eligible for dental treatment under section 14 of the Health Act, 1953, were provided with such treatment under the child welfare and school health services.

The dental services in County Kildare, particularly in the Naas area, were curtailed during this period as one of the two whole-time dental surgeons employed by Kildare County Council, who provided dental treatment in north County Kildare, was not available for most of the period. This dentist has since resigned. His post will be filled next week—on a temporary basis pending the recruitment of a permanent officer.
