Vol. 208 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Non-Council Building Sites.

58.

asked the Minister for Local Government the conditions under which housing authorities may acquire land by means of a compulsory purchase order for non-council building sites; and if the fact that persons cannot obtain sites in any district without ground rents constitutes a good reason for the provision of sites by the housing authorities.

Housing authorities are empowered under the Housing of the Working Classes Acts and the Labourers Acts to make compulsory purchase orders for the acquisition of land for the purpose of providing housing sites for sale or leasing to public utility societies or private persons. It is a matter for housing authorities to decide in what circumstances the making of such a compulsory purchase order would be justified.
