Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter Exports.

19.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state in respect of butter exports, the countries to which they are made, and the subsidy per pound of butter paid in each country.

The reply is in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

NOTES:

(1) Non-creamery butter was exported during the year to Great Britain, Malta and Gozo, Morocco, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Leeward Islands and Windward Islands. There is no direct export subsidy on this type of butter but any creamery butter contained in it is made available by An Bord Bainne to the manufacturers at the prices realised from time to time on the Board's exports of creamery butter.

(2) In addition to paying two-thirds of the export loss the Exchequer contributed a milk price allowance of 2d. per gallon from 1st May, 1963 which increased the Exchequer subsidy on butter exports by 4.57d. per lb.
