Vol. 209 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Swimming Pools.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government what progress has been made in regard to the provision of a swimming pool at the Willie Pearse Memorial Park, Crumlin, Dublin.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his previous question on the subject on 30th January last. I approved of some further details of lay-out on 18th April, 1964, and I am awaiting the submission of the working drawings and contract documents for the pool.

39.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the need for an adequate swimming pool with lifeguards, for the use of children in Ballyfermot, Dublin; and whether he is aware of any plans for the provision of this amenity.

I am aware of the need for increased swimming facilities in Dublin. I am informed that, when the proposed pool at Crumlin has been established, Dublin Corporation intend to provide further pools in areas remote from the sea. I understand that the location of these further pools is at present receiving consideration by the Corporation but has not yet been determined.

Would the Minister take a kindly interest in this matter? Ballyfermot is the biggest single working-class housing area in this country and it badly needs this very simple amenity. Would the Minister urge the Corporation to do something about it? It is not such an immense problem.

There is no need to ask me to take a kindly interest in the matter. If I had my way, these pools would be already there.
