Vol. 209 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo Street Closing.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government why Connolly Street in Sligo town was completely blocked to traffic in August, 1963, causing the local traders much inconvenience; if the complete closing of a public street was legally justified; and when it is expected that the present hoarding in Connolly Street, Sligo will be taken down.

I understand that Connolly Street, Sligo, was completely closed to traffic for a period between August and November, 1963, because of the danger of collapse of three buildings in that street. I am not in a position to express any opinion on the legal issues involved. As regards the last part of the question I understand that, pending conclusion of certain legal procedures in relation to one of the houses, the Corporation are not yet in a position to say when the present hoarding may be removed.
