Vol. 209 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Investigation of Rating System.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the Taoiseach's recent statement concerning an investigation of the rating system, he will consult all local authorities with rating obligations in order to fully ascertain the extent of their commitments which might be made a charge on the Exchequer.

The question of consulting rating authorities is being borne in mind in connection with the various enquiries which are being made at present into aspects of the system of local finance and taxation. Recommendations regarding changes in the present system have been sent to me by various rating authorities. All such suggestions will receive due consideration in the course of the enquiries.
