Vol. 209 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Lands.

30.

asked the Minister for Lands the area and location of lands held by the Land Commission for division in County Mayo on 31st March, 1964.

In relation to County Mayo, the difficulties in the way of supplying the detailed information requested were set out in my reply to the Deputy's previous question on 28th June, 1961.

In the circumstances, perhaps it would meet the Deputy's requirements to know that at 31st March, 1964, the Land Commission had on hands in County Mayo—apart from substantial areas of turbary, mountain, etc.—an aggregate area of some 4,400 acres of arable land for use as a working pool for land settlement in the county.

If the Deputy is concerned about any individual estate and furnishes particulars, I shall have the matter investigated.

31.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state for the year ended 31st March, 1964 the number of persons (1) transferred to new farms from County Mayo, and (2) who have received additions to their holdings in County Mayo.

The figures, which are as yet provisional, are 16 and 111, respectively. In addition, two migrants were resettled within County Mayo and about 82 fragmented holdings were rearranged.
