Vol. 209 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Scholarship Schemes.

60.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Education if he will consider an alteration to existing and future scholarship schemes so as to allow for variation to meet (a) rising living costs, and (b) rising tuition costs.

The question of the value of an individual scholarship which may be awarded by a local authority under the terms of the Local Authorities (Education Scholarships) (Amendment) Act, 1961 is primarily a matter for determination by the relevant local authority. I am prepared to consider a proposal from a county or county borough council to increase the value of individual scholarships where I am of opinion that such increase is warranted.
