Vol. 209 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Schemes.

47.

asked the Minister for Local Government if certain housing schemes (list supplied) were formulated and sanctioned to meet needs in respect of which a two-thirds subsidy applies; if so, if a list of applicants was submitted to his Department for approval before the schemes were sanctioned; and if he will ascertain and state the number of unsuccessful applicants for each scheme on the allocation date(s).

I understand that all the schemes mentioned were formulated with a view to meeting the needs of families living in unfit or overcrowded conditions. In the case of three schemes which were formulated prior to 12th October, 1960, the housing authority in accordance with the procedure in force since 1956, submitted a list of applicants from the area to justify the provision of the houses. Since 12th October, 1960, such particulars of applicants are not required, the certificate of the Manager that the houses are required being sufficient.

I understand that the housing authority has no record of the unsuccessful applicants for each of these schemes.
