Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Recognised Secondary Schools.

67.

asked the Minister for Education the number of recognised secondary schools in the city of Dublin; whether there are any plans for an increase in these schools or for extensions thereto during the coming financial year; and, if so, if he will give particulars.

There are 75 recognised secondary schools in the city of Dublin. Applications for the recognition of new secondary schools are received in my Department at the beginning of the school-year from which recognition is sought. I am not in possession, therefore, of the advance information sought by the Deputy.

The question of extensions to secondary schools did not heretofore come formally before my Department. This question will, however, arise under the recently announced building grant scheme for secondary schools.
