Vol. 209 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Pensioners.

3.

Mr. Browne

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the injustice being meted out to members of the Garda Síochána who retired after November, 1961, by their exclusion from (a) the compensation they were entitled to following the imposition of the turnover tax in the Budget of 1963 and (b) the five per cent increase granted to retired State servants in the Budget of 1964; and if he will take immediate steps to grant these members the same benefits as members of the Garda Síochána who retired before November, 1961.

The terms of the pensions increases provided for the Garda Síochána are the same as for all other classes of public service pensioners, and I regret that I cannot consider making any exceptional provision for them.
