Vol. 209 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Assistance for Youth Clubs.

22.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the great need for the extension of the youth club movement in Dublin; and that the voluntary organisations engaged in this work are greatly hampered by lack of funds; and if he will introduce a scheme of financial assistance for their benefit.

This is primarily a matter for the Minister for Education who, as the Deputy is aware, replied to a question about it yesterday and explained the function of the individual vocational education committees. It is, in addition, however, in a limited way the concern of my Department in the field of juvenile delinquency and associated problems and in this connection statutory provision does exist for certain classes of expenditure. I greatly value the work of the voluntary organisations in this field and am prepared favourably to examine any suggestions which may be put forward from time to time.
