Vol. 209 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Game Stocks.

19.

asked the Minister for Lands if in order to preserve game stocks he will prohibit the sale of dead grouse and pheasants for the coming shooting season.

Total prohibition of the sale of dead game as suggested by the Deputy would require legislation. This is one of a number of aspects of game preservation which are at present under consideration.

While I appreciate that it would require legislation, would the Minister consider endeavouring to expedite such legislation before the coming shooting season?

If the Deputy had the power in the Land Bill, it would be all right.

No. All the birds in the country will be dead by the time that is passed.

If I got the Deputy's co-operation rather than his Party's obstruction, something could be done.

We never obstruct, and the Minister will get all the co-operation he requires.
