Vol. 209 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Special Employment Schemes Grants.

14.

asked the Minister for Finance if in the administration of special employment schemes grants the moneys are paid over to the local authorities for expenditure by them.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the Urban Employment Schemes financed from Subhead D and the Rural Employment Schemes financed from Subhead E of the Employment and Emergency Schemes Vote. These schemes are carried out by the local authorities to whom the grants are paid, through the Department of Local Government, according as the works proceed. The local authorities also contribute themselves towards the cost of the works.
