Vol. 209 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Rural Electrification.

20.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he can indicate when it is hoped to complete rural electrification in the Derrynasagart area, near Ballyvourney, County Cork.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that Derrynasagart forms part of the Board's Ballyvourney rural area which was developed under the Rural Electrification Scheme in 1958-59. Practically all the householders in this area have already had an opportunity of obtaining connection to the electricity supply but some did not accept supply because of special service charges or other reasons personal to the householders. As I have stated in reply to previous questions, the Board is re-canvassing the whole country on an area basis under the revised rural scheme in order to give those houses still unconnected the best possible terms for supply. It is expected that Ballyvourney rural area will be re-canvassed in about two years' time and that those who accept terms will be connected before the end of 1966.
