Vol. 209 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannonbridge (Offaly) Briquette Factory.

22.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will arrange for the erection and construction of the New Bord na Móna briquette factory at Shannonbridge, Offaly on the Shannonbridge side of the Blackwater River and on the Cloghan side of the town; if he will ensure that all buildings, houses and residences in connection with this factory will be erected in County Offaly; when the proposed work will commence; what the cost will be; and when it is expected that the new factory will be completed and in production.

I am informed by Bord na Móna that they will not be in a position to decide on the site for the proposed briquette factory for another three of four months and that it is unlikely that work would begin on the construction of a factory for approximately 18 months after a decision on the site or that it would be ready for operation until about 1968.

The Board say that at the present stage of their investigations it is not possible to say what the cost of the factory will be.

The choice of site for the factory is a matter on which the Board will be guided by technical and economic considerations.
