Vol. 209 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - CIE Pensioners.

24.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he has yet come to a decision with regard to the increasing of pensions of existing CIE pensioners; and, if so, what decision.

Following consideration of the Report of the Commission on CIE pensions and sickness benefit payments, I have authorised CIE to grant increases in the pensions of certain CIE wages grade pensioners who retired before the 1st day of April, 1963. Full particulars of the increases will be announced shortly by CIE.

Roughly, what will the percentage be?

This matter is still before CIE and I should prefer to await their statement.

When the Minister promised last month that he would give a decision in the middle of May, he said he would recommend to CIE certain increases.

That is the case, and CIE will be making an announcement.

Approximately when will the announcement be made?

Within the next ten days.
