Vol. 209 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Town Plan.

36.

Mr. Belton

asked the Minister for Local Government when he intends to implement the Dublin town plan.

The Planning Scheme which was made by Dublin Corporation in 1957 will be superseded by the development plan which the Corporation will be required to make under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963. It will be the duty of the planning authority to take the necessary steps for securing the objectives which are contained in the development plan.

Mr. Belton

That is not the question I asked the Minister. I asked about the implementation of the new Dublin town plan.

I said the plan made in 1957 will be superseded by the development plan which the Corporation are now required to make.

37.

Mr. Belton

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he envisages much change in the centre of Dublin city because of the implementation of the new town plan.

It will be a matter for Dublin Corporation to decide on planning objectives for the centre of Dublin when they are making their development plan for the city in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963. It would be premature for me to attempt to forecast in detail the possible effects of the plan on the central city area. I may say, however, that the Act requires any such plan to contain certain specific provisions such as the re-development of obsolete portions of the area and the improvement of conditions governing traffic.
