The weekly rate of compensation payable under the Workmen's Compensation Acts in respect of total incapacity for work is 75 per cent of the workman's average weekly pre-accident wages if over £1 a week, and 80 per cent if £1 or less, subject, since September, 1955, to a maximum of £4 10s. 0d.
As I have already informed the Dáil, legislation to implement the decision to extend the existing State Social Insurance Scheme to include provision for compensation for disablement or loss of life following occupational injury will be introduced as early as possible, and in the meantime it is not proposed to introduce interim legislation to amend the Workmen's Compensation Acts.
