Vol. 209 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Tipperary Lands.

66.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Lands if he will give particulars of the description, size, acreage, etc., of land in South Tipperary (a) in the possession of the Land Commission, (b) at present the subject of compulsory acquisition proceedings, and (c) under negotiation for voluntary possession by the Land Commission.

The replies to parts (a) and (b) of the question take the form of a tabular statement which I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report.

As regards (c), negotiations are currently in progress for voluntary purchase of eight properties aggregating some 650 acres in County Tipperary (S.R.). However, these transactions are confidential as between the Land Commission and the landowners concerned and it is not the practice to publish details in such cases.

Following is the statement:—

(a) PARTICULARS of estates on hands of the Land Commission in County Tipperary (S.R.) —apart from turbary, insignificant residues of allotted properties and lands transferred in exchange.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Lands the various areas of land in South Tipperary, giving the acreage (a) under afforestation by his Department, and (b) under consideration for afforestation purposes by his Department.

There are ten State forestry centres in South Tipperary— at Anner, Bansha, Cahir, Carrick-on-Suir, Clogheen, Dundrum, Glengarra, Glen of Aherlow, Slievenamon and Urlingford. The total planted area at these centres is approximately 26,280 acres.

There are at present 122 areas totalling 14,341 acres on offer to my Department for afforestation purposes in South Tipperary.
