NOTE:— The figures in Table B include only compromise penalties of £50 or more. Large numbers of compromise penalties of lesser amounts are accepted for minor customs offences in respect of passengers' baggage, parcel and letter post, customs entry documentation, etc. The extraction of the number and amount of all these penalties or of penalties accepted earlier than 1959 would entail an excessive expenditure of official time and money.
