Vol. 210 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Portlaoise Peatmoss Factory.

14.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when it is proposed to commence work on the construction of the new peatmoss factory near Portlaoise; when it is likely that it will go into production; the approximate cost of the factory, the production capacity, and the number likely to be employed; and if he will make a statement in regard to it.

I am informed by Bord na Móna that it is expected that work on the construction of the new moss peat factory near Portlaoise will begin about July, 1964, and that it will go into production in April, 1965. The estimated cost of the project, including bog development, is £450,000 and the production capacity will be 300,000 bales per annum. The total number likely to be employed in the factory and associated bog is 250.

Can the Minister conveniently say what proportion of the £450,000 he mentions is likely to be appropriated for development and what proportion for the actual construction of the factory?

I am afraid I have not that figure.
