Vol. 210 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Dublin Sites.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether it is intended to acquire for the purposes of the local authority the site bounded by North King Street, Queen Street and Smithfield in the constituency of Dublin North Central; and, if so, if he will state for what purposes the said site will be acquired, whether for letting to industrial or business undertakings or for the provision of dwellings.

I understand from Dublin Corporation that no action has yet been taken by them towards acquiring the lands referred to in this question.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government (a) whether a compulsory purchase order has been made for the acquisition by Dublin Corporation of the site bounded by Queen Street, North King Street and Blackhall Parade in the constituency of Dublin North Central; (b) whether it has been confirmed by him; (c) for what purposes it is intended to acquire the site; and (d) if for dwellings, the nature and number of dwellings it is proposed to erect thereon.

A compulsory purchase order has been made by Dublin Corporation in respect of the site referred to but a public local inquiry to consider objections will be necessary before a decision is made on the order. The site is proposed to be acquired for housing purposes. Information as to the number or type of dwellings which would be erected on the site is not yet available to me.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether it is proposed to erect dwellings on the site acquired by Dublin Corporation at Constitution Hill in the constituency of Dublin North Central; and, if so, if he will state the number of dwellings to be erected there; and when building will commence.

A sketch layout submitted by Dublin Corporation for the erection of 90 flats on a site at Constitution Hill was approved on 25th November, 1963. I am not in a position to say when building is likely to commence.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government (a) whether a compulsory purchase order has been made for the acquisition by the Dublin Corporation of the site bounded by North King Street, Smithfield and Friary Lane in the constituency of Dublin North Central; (b) whether confirmation of any such order has been sought from him; (c) for what purposes it is intended to acquire the site, whether residential, industrial or both; and (d) when acquisition and clearance of the site can be expected.

I understand from Dublin Corporation that consideration is being given to the acquisition of this site for housing purposes but a compulsory purchase order in respect of it has not yet been made.
