Vol. 210 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Stamp Duty on House Purchase.

2.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider remitting the stamp duty in the case of persons purchasing houses for their own occupation, whose income is less than £20 weekly.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his question of 12th May, 1964, in which I drew attention to the existing relief which provides for a reduced stamp duty of £1 per cent on purchases of houses for which grants under the Housing Acts are made. I regret that I am precluded by the budgetary position from considering any further relief at the present time.
