Vol. 210 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aran Island School.

42.

asked the Minister for Education why, in view of the dangerous and unhealthy condition of Onagh National School, Aran Islands, County Galway, which was condemned in 1960 and of the assurance given in 1962, this school has not to date been listed for rebuilding; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The site offered for the proposed new school at Onagh, Aran Islands, has been approved and sketch plans have been prepared.

Documentary evidence of title to the site for the new school is awaited. When this has been furnished, a grant will be sanctioned by my Department towards the cost of erecting the new building.

In view of the fact that it has been awaited since 1960, will the Minister now indicate when they may hope to have proper school facilities there? At the moment the facilities are disgraceful.

As soon as they get title to the site they will have all the assistance I can give them towards getting a new school.

What steps have been taken to get title?

That is done locally and the Deputy might address his question there.

From the Minister's angle, would he expedite that matter?
