Vol. 210 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Building in City Areas.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will approach Dublin Corporation with a view to having them prevent the inroads being made by industrial interests, even to-day, into the parishes of City Quay and Westland Row, in view of the serious de-population of these areas and in view of the fact that the sites now being developed in Fenian Street and Petersons Lane by these interests are ideally suited for badly needed municipal dwellings.

The position is that most of the land in the area in question was zoned for industrial uses in the planning scheme made by the Corporation in 1957 and the Corporation are advised that in considering applications for permission for development under the Town and Regional Planning Acts they are bound to have regard to the contents of the Planning Scheme. The Acts under which the scheme was made will cease to operate when the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, is brought into operation and I understand that the Corporation will then consider the acquisition of housing sites in the area.
