Vol. 211 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Protection of Industries.

57.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state, with regard to the proposed change-over from quota protection to tariff protection, in the case of what industries the level of tariff protection has been decided; what was the level in each case; and at what date it is expected that the proposed change from quota to tariff will take place in each of these industries.

Rates of duty have been determined in relation to all commodities which are or were subject to quota restrictions. Particulars of the commodities and of the customs duties are given in a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated with the Official Report.

With regard to the concluding part of the Deputy's question, the position concerning quotas, generally, is being kept under constant review in the light of developments which may arise from membership of international trade blocs and the necessity to promote industrial re-adaptation and a higher level of efficiency in industry.
