Vol. 211 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Burning of Forestry Land.

79.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that in the area of Ballymacarbery, County Tipperary the burning of forestry land prior to planting was carried out at a time of year which resulted in the destruction of considerable amounts of game, in particular of pheasants which had been introduced by the local Game Council and were hatching at the time; and if he will take steps to ensure that in future this type of burning is carried out at a time of year when it will not cause this damage to game, particularly in view of the fact that his Department wish to encourage game as a tourist attraction.

Inquiries have been made into this matter and I am satisfied that no burning carried out by forestry staff in the Ballymacarbery area, County Tipperary, resulted in the destruction of game.

Ballymacarbery is in County Waterford, not County Tipperary.
