Vol. 211 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Wage Scales.

2.

asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to a recent report to the effect that members of many grades in the Civil Service were leaving it because of general dissatisfaction with the wage scales, etc.; and what action he proposes to take to remedy this undesirable situation.

My attention has been drawn to the report referred to by the Deputy.

I am not satisfied on the information before me that the terms of the report represent the realities of the situation. Conciliation and arbitration machinery has, as the Deputy is no doubt aware, been in existence for some considerable time, to deal with the rates of remuneration of civil servants belonging to the arbitrable classes.
