Vol. 211 No. 3

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 1, 5, 12, 13, 15—Vote 42—3, 4, 6 and 14. It is proposed to take Nos. 3 and 4 in conjunction with Vote 42. It is proposed to take Nos. 6 and 14 after questions and, when completed, to resume the order. Questions will be at 2.30 p.m.

Mr. Ryan

I should like to clarify what was said yesterday with reference to amendments to the Transport Bill when I complained that I had not received notification of the disallowing of certain amendments. The letter was handed to me when I was in the House. I want to complain about the delay in notifying Deputies that their amendments are out of order. When they are ruled out of order, they are not told until the debate commences. It is unfair to Deputies that they do not receive this notification earlier.

So far as the Chair is concerned, messages were sent to Deputies in time.

On a point of order, this is not the first time this has happened. It happened on previous occasions in my own case. I was given notice as I walked into the House. I submit it is the duty of the Chair, with respect, to rule on amendments within a reasonable time after they are sent in.
