Vol. 211 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephones in Seaside Resorts.

40.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will provide a public telephone service, regardless of economics, in seaside centres where large numbers of holiday trippers gather during the summer period, so that there may be the speediest possible contact with ambulance and other services in instances where human life is endangered.

It is the policy of the Post Office to provide telephone kiosks only where the use likely to be made of them by the public generally would warrant the expenditure involved. In practice, this policy has resulted in all important seaside centres having public telephone facilities.
