asked the Minister for Finance what steps will be taken this summer to prevent the playing of transistor radios in public parks and places under the control of the Commissioners of Public Works, having regard to the large number of people last year who failed to comply with the bye-laws prohibiting the playing of such instruments.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transistor Radios in Public Parks.
Mr. Ryan
St. Stephen's Green is the only public place under the control of the Commissioners of Public Works in which the playing of transistor radios is controlled by bye-law. Consideration will be given to introducing similar controls when the bye-laws for other such areas are next being revised. The constables in Stephen's Green have been instructed to pay particular attention to this bye-law and I am advised that, while there may be occasional undetected breaches there is general observance and the bye-law will be strictly enforced.
Mr. Ryan
Obviously these radios must be switched off when the park ranger comes along. When you walk through St. Stephen's Green on a summer evening, you hear several of these menaces playing.
