Vol. 211 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - CIE Vehicles: Traffic Offences.

54.

asked the Minister for Justice the total number of prosecutions heard in the Dublin Metropolitan District Courts between 1st June, 1961 and 1st June, 1964 in respect of the user of mechanically propelled vehicles, the property of Córas Iompair Éireann, for offences under (a) the Roads Act, (b) the Finance (Excise Duties) Vehicles Acts, 1952 and 1960, and (c) the Road Transport Act, 1933; the total number of convictions with the amount of penalties imposed and where the penalties were mitigated; the total amount of mitigated penalties; the number of summonses in which the Probation of Offenders Act, 1907 was applied; the number of cases reported to the Gardaí where CIE were plying for hire and reward without displaying the current tax discs; and what action was taken in relation to these cases.

Statistics kept by the courts and Garda are not classified in such a way as to make available the information sought by the Deputy. Compilation of the information would involve a substantial amount of extra work, and I do not consider that the additional expenses would be justified.
