Vol. 212 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Castletownbere Harbour.

53.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will indicate what progress is being made with the project for the improvement and development of Castletownbere Harbour.

The strengthening of the existing timber pier which is a necessary preliminary to the main work has been completed. Difficulty in acquiring certain properties in private ownership is holding up commencement of the main work, namely, the formation of new quays. Negotiations for the purchase of these properties are in hands and every effort is being made to bring them to a satisfactory conclusion. A contract has been placed for the extensive dredging work which is expected to begin next week.
